On March 11th, in Sines’ Forest Area, which is under the management of ICNF (the national Institute for Conservation of Nature and Forests), an Open Day for pilot area L10 took place with the presence of several landowners. After a general evaluation of soil profiles by Professor Carlos Alexandre of the Geosciences Department of the University of Évora, both owners and forest managers had the opportunity to discuss the influence of the soil profile typology in afforestation planning and management of cork oak stands. Some climate change adaptation measures carried out in this pilot area were also addressed, such as selective cleaning with natural regeneration protection, using a shrub cutter instead of plowing or other type of soil tilling.
