On December 5th, the LIFE Montado-Adapt project went to “Escola Básica Pedro Nunes”, in Alcácer do Sal, to carry out a set of activities for the younger audience: about a hundred students were made aware of the importance of this unique forest ecosystem and had the opportunity to discover many products from the Montado, such as cork, pine nuts, honey, acorns and other products derived from transformation.
During the afternoon, the event took place in the National Forest of Valverde, one of the pilot areas managed by the ICNF. Forest owners and managers had the opportunity to get to know and discuss topics related to plant material production concerning the recovery of the Montados, namely the production of native plants associated with the mentioned ecosystem and the certification of forest reproductive materials - stands, seeds and plants. The day ended with a visit to the Forest Nursery of Mata de Valverde, a site for the production of native species used in the project, such as stone pines, cork oaks, holm oaks, Portuguese oaks, strawberry trees, small oak trees, common myrtles, aromatic herbs, among other species of similar value.
