November 8th was marked by the
Herdade do Freixo do Meio Open Day, that began with an environmental awareness action for the students of
Vale Figueira Elementary School. As a first activity, the students got to know some of the many products that Montado has to offer and some examples of uses such as crackers, infusion, patés and acorn sausage, some of the many products produced by this pilot area.
After that, the students learned about Montado's past, present and future and climate change adaptation measures promoted in the project through a panel game. To conclude this morning of learning, students had the opportunity to visit
Herdade do Freixo do Meio and meet their animals.
During the afternoon, dedicated to adults,
Herdade do Freixo do Meio's experience in the development of the LIFE Montado-Adapt project was shared. The discussion focused on the theme “Forests for the future – forests as a way to adapt to climate change”. Some of the measures implemented in
Freixo do Meio were presented, such as agro-forest, keyline, holistic management and seed bank improvement. The day ended with a visit to observe some of the results already obtained.
