Herdade da Coitadinha hosted, on December 3rd, another Open Day, encompassing an environmental awareness activity directed to the students of the Barrancos School Group and a dissemination action aimed at the general public, with the purpose of presenting the LIFE-MontadoAdapt project.
The morning (dedicated to the younger crowd) started with an interactive game which looked to sensitize the students about the past, present and future of Montado, followed by a showcase of some of the diverse products that Montado ecosystems have to offer. In order to go from theory to practice there was still time to collaborate in some activities, namely the reforestation with holm oaks and the preparation of tea packages for Christmas baskets, produced in this estate.

     

The afternoon session, in which regional landowners were present, began with a presentation by Forestagri on the Barrancos Forest Intervention Zone (ZIF) as an instrument for qualifying, enhancing and adapting the territory. Pedro Capa, technician from the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), explained some best practices related to pruning in cork and holm oak, which was then complemented by a field visit where it was demonstrated training pruning and maintenance pruning applied to the holm oak.
