LOCATION: Malpartida de Plasencia, Cáceres, Spain TOTAL AREA: 3,227 ha PROJECT AREA: 100 ha DESCRIPTION: “Dehesa del Guijo” is an estate located in Extremadura (Spain), being part of the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve, the Monfragüe influence area and the National Park. It presents drought and erosion problems and is overpopulated by wild ungulates, which compete for food with the livestock, since it is an extensive farming system. As such, natural landscape regeneration is a pressing issue.For the LIFE Montado-Adapt project, an area was chosen on the northern side of the estate in order to study climate change adaptation, through actions focused on obtaining bio-products, eco-services and environmental improvements.
