LOCATION: Foros de Vale de Figueira, Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal TOTAL AREA: 550 ha PROJECT AREA: 100 ha DESCRIPTION: “Herdade Freixo do Meio” (HFM) is a 550 ha Alentejo estate inspired by Montado/Dehesa as an ethical management base. The project incorporates in the Agroforestry model Agroecology, Permaculture and Food Sovereignty views and principles, as a way to address the present and build the future. Since 1990, HFM's production model has been based on soil regeneration and ecological restoration in an agroforestry system of food production, by succession and stratification (trees, shrubs, herbaceous, roots, climbers, etc).

In the property, seven micro-agro-industries operate, making efficient and integrated use of forestry, agriculture, livestock and horticulture resources in a multi-production logic, combining environmental services with tourism and educational services, such as catering, housing and research. Since 2011, all HFM products have organic certification.
